The Unsinkable Molly Brown Foundation was formed by "The Unsinkable Krewe of Molly Brown" in 2001 with a mission to enrich arts education in all Hillsborough County Public Schools. "The Krewe" participates in the Gasparilla parades of Tampa, FL, and marches in honor of our hero, "The Unsinkable Molly Brown". Margaret Tobin Brown, never personally known as "Molly", was famous as a survivor of the "Titanic". The Krewe, however, marches in her honor not because she was famous but because of her philanthropy to many causes and love of drama, art and music.
During parading season the Krewe returns to the Titanic on a float wearing Edwardian costumes. Yes, we throw beads, but we also are dedicated to our Foundation's programs.
In just six years through our "Challenge" Grants, the Foundation has supported 75 schools, awarded 123 classroom grants, and purchased over $228,000 in musical instruments and art supplies.
The Foundation's grants and scholarships programs fund musical instruments, art supplies and full tuition music scholarships through partnerships with Hillsborough County Public Schools, the Mayor's Arts Education Fund, and the University of South Florida. For every dollar donated, 99 cents goes directly to our programs.
The Unsinkable Molly Brown Foundation is a tax exempt 501 C-3 incorporation established in 2001. We are an all volunteer organization with no paid staff or professional fundraisers. The Mayor's Arts Education Fund is supported by private donations - no tax dollars are used for this program.
