Mayor Pam Iorio joined The Unsinkable Molly Brown Foundation for the official announcement of the 2007 Mayor's Arts Education Fund grant recipients, during The Molly Fine Arts Revue Salutes "The Beatles". The event, featuring a student art exhibit and musical performances by "Lounge Nouveau" with Marshall Gillon on vocals began at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at GunnAllen Financial.
The Mayor's Arts Education Fund awarded over $29,000 in grants that purchased over $58,000 in musical instruments and art supplies. More than 20 Hillsborough County Schools were funded, with eight schools being classified as Title I. The foundation is also sponsoring its first "Artist in Residency" programs entitled "The Young Songwriter's Symposium" and "Mystical Seascape".
"The Young Songwriter's Symposium" is an after-school program at Tampa Bay Boulevard Elementary School produced by the Hillsborough Elementary Music Educator's Council.
The "Mystical Seascape" is a performance art workshop produced for Newsome High School by The Unsinkable Krewe of Molly Brown, The Arts Council of Hillsborough County and Bit 'N' Pieces Puppet Theatre.
Recognizing the arts play an important role in the development and education of youth, a partnership with the Hillsborough County School District and The Unsinkable Molly Brown Foundation was formed. The Mayor's Arts Education Fund was founded in September 2006 and is the newest initiative in Tampa's commitment to youth. Through this initiative, the city encourages support of the foundation's arts education programs.
The Unsinkable Molly Brown Foundation is a tax exempt 501 C-3 incorporation established in 2001. We are an all volunteer organization with no paid staff or professional fundraisers. The Mayor's Arts Education Fund is supported by private donations - no tax dollars are used for this program.
